Reputation management is one of the most important things for any business to do. But when it comes to the internet, anyone can post anything about anyone for any reason. It may seem like the wild wild west, but there are things you can do to manage your online image.
Prevent Negative Reviews
Prevention is the best way to manage your online reputation. If your company stands for good customer service and tries their best with each and every customer to leave a positive impression, then you shouldn’t have any dramatic reputation issues on the internet. However with that said, there are some people that can never be pleased and that will write a negative review even if they didn’t have all that negative of an experience.
Removing Negative Reviews
In some cases, especially in cases where a review is blatantly false, we can work with the website hosting the review to work and get the review removed from their site. Most review websites work well with small businesses and online reputation management or market companies because they don’t want to end up in the middle of a legal battle over a simple review.
But in some cases, especially when the review is opinion based or factual, the website is under no obligation to remove the review. This is when online reputation management services really come into play.
What Is Online Reputation Management?
Unfortunately these negative reviews are often left on large sites like Yelp, Manta, Google Places, or other prominent websites that rank extremely well in search engine results. So when someone Googles your company name, that negative review is right there. What reputation management does is two things: 1) try to develop ways for your happy customers to leave good reviews on those sites and 2) push those negative reviews off page 1 of search results.
Ideally, the most cost effective way for us to help manage your reputation is to come up with unique ideas to get your current happy customers to write reviews on these sites to negate the negative reviews. However this isn’t always possible or sometimes the negative review shows up on a site that doesn’t allow reviews or is one person’s opinion.
In this case what we do is create buzz around your company online with positive reviews that are stronger and better optimized than the negative review. What this does is pushes that negative review down to page 2 or even page 3 of search results, and roughly 90% of searchers never leave page 1 of results so they never see those negative reviews lurking on pages 2/3. Additionally if they do see them, searchers trust the results on page 1 much more than pages 2 or 3 so they are less likely to allow that review to determine whether they do business with your company or not.
Online reputation management prices vary based on the site we are going against and the number of reviews. If we can get rid of the review by helping you get some more positive reviews, then the prices can be very modest, however if we have to battle to get rid of several bad reviews or bad reviews on very strong websites, then expect to spend a few thousand dollars on the reputation management campaign.
